Rating Explanation.

We rate games on a scale of 1 to 10. Here’s what each rating means:

  • 1/10 – Terrible
Games with this rating are either dead or mismanaged by the developers/publishers. These titles are most likely best avoided entirely.
  • 2-4/10 – Poor
Games in this range may offer a few redeeming qualities, but they are ultimately not worth playing for most gamers. They’re not recommended unless you’re curious about their flaws.
  • 5-6/10 – Mediocre
These games are average, and while some players might find enjoyment, they have significant flaws that hinder the experience. Issues like performance problems, Pay-2-Win mechanics, or lacklustre AI and narrative are common.
  • 7-8/10 – Good
These are solid games worth playing. They might have a few issues, but most gamers will enjoy the experience despite the minor imperfections.
  • 9/10 – Great
Near-perfect games that only suffer from small flaws. Most gamers will absolutely love these titles.
  • 10/10 – Masterpiece
Genre-defining and nearly perfect, these games are a must-play for any gamer. While not flawless, they deliver a truly exceptional experience that will be recommended time and again.

What Type Of Games Do We Review?

We review almost every genre/platform of video games with a few exceptions.

  • SteamVR (PC)

Games/Genres We Will Not Review.

  • Asset Flips.
  • Adult Only (AO) Games.
  • Connect 3/ Bejeweled Clones.
  • Games without English subtitles/translation.
  • Games that are not available in the UK/EU without a VPN.
  • Games that actively engage in predatory monetisation.
  • Deluxe/Ultimate Editions.

VR In Focus will accept keys that grant access to DLC or in-game bonuses such as skins and season pass content; however, to be honest and transparent with our readers, this will be disclosed in the review so as not to mislead our audience into believing we “liked the game so much we bought X or Y”.

Our Stance on Mature Content.

While VR In Focus covers VR titles rated M for mature; however, we do not review games in which mature content is the main or only feature.

For instance, we will cover games that include mature themes or violence but also offer strong gameplay, engaging narratives, or meaningful mechanics. We will not cover games that exist primarily to showcase sexual content or extreme violence without providing substantial gameplay or creative depth.

This approach applies equally to violence: we cover mature VR games with thoughtful design, challenge, or storytelling, but we avoid titles that focus solely on gratuitous harm or shock value with little else to engage the player.

Our Stance on Sponsored Content.

I find sponsored content distasteful and never have and never will allow it on VR in Focus.

While I am not saying it is illegal or calling those who engage in sponsored content unethical, I would be unethical if I were to engage in it, as I believe it actively encourages content creators to cover a title more favourably than they otherwise would have.

Our Stance on Early Access Titles.

VR In Focus covers early access titles similarly to full releases, but we take into account that it is “not yet finished” and that performance will improve in time.

That said, we reserve the right to warn readers if we feel a title is unlikely to fulfil all its promises. We will not recommend titles where we feel the developers have oversold the product or their capabilities.
